MUST HAVE: Pre-Fall Plaids
For those of you already planning your fall wardrobe, may I suggest to you a little tartan? I've always had an attachment to plaid prints, so I was delighted to see it making an appearance in the Pre-Fall 2014 collections. SUMMER MUST HAVE: The Tote
I'm usually the satchel or clutch carrying type, but when the summer months are upon us I can't deny the practicality of the TOTE. Whether it's an impromptu meeting, rendezvous in the park or last minute weekend get away- a light weight carry all is just the accessory to get you from point A to point B.
The sensible bag is no longer just an accompaniment to the beach, oh no it does double duty...sophisticated enough for the office yet large enough for an overnighter. And with a large enough selection to match every taste and budget there's a tote out there for everyone.

The Met: Punk Chaos to Couture
....After a year hiatus I'm making my way back, just like my favorite fashion event The Met Gala. It's like Christmas for the fashionistas' in all of us.
This year celebrated one of my favorite fashion movements- PUNK. Without which I might not have found my way into the fashion world...why it seems like yesterday I was putting safety pins in my shirts, experimenting with fabric paint, and making my own clothes. Of course I've grown out of that phase however, the inspiration is still there and it's refreshing to see the serious fashion crowd pay their respects.
My favorites on the red carpet included Sarah Jessica Parker in McQueen and Christina Ricci in Vivian Westwood- bizarrely enough not everyone got the memo as to what the theme was (eh hem Kim K, don't even get me started on why she was invited anyway)....And inside the exhibit RODARTE stole my heart after all I have been obsessed with their Fall 2008 since it first showed.
The exhibit runs until August 14th, get there before it's gone.

Friday the 13th: FASHION
A rare occurrence (only happens 3 times at most a year) Friday the 13th is an interesting day to say the least. Surrounded by superstition the date has become a part of Western culture as an urban legend.
With all that aside, the date got me thinking about the fascination of folklore, superstition, and even the supernatural...more importantly from a FASHION point-of-view Friday the 13th brought to mind designers like Alexander McQueen, Rodarte, Givenchy, and my all time favorite FIT Museum Exhibit- GOTHIC: DARK GLAMOUR ( http://www3.fitnyc.edu/museum/gothic/home.html)
Regardless of your thoughts on the subject matter, I've arranged a little visual treat to start your day off right. Enjoy-

Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty
Alexander McQueen -a visionary, genius, artist and now fashion legend. I know, a trite description of the late designer, but really there are no other words and the proof of such a statement can be seen with your own eyes at The Metropolitin Museum of Art 'Alexander McQueen Savage Beauty' special exhibit.
I was lucky enough to view the exhibit last weekend and after standing in line for over an hour it became apparent that even in death McQueen has truly achieved icon status in and out of the fashion industry. It's tempting, but I'm not going to write an essay here on the designer; his achievements, personality, tragic death....No, instead I am focusing on the 'Savage Beauty' exhibit.
Thankfully the MET has given the public an opportunity to see in person the art of fashion to which McQueen masterfully contributed to. Photography was not allowed in the exhibit so I am unable to give you the full experience of the props/sets that truly gave insight to the designers creativity. I am able to give you some visual highlights of the artful creations; sculpted feather dresses, shredded crepe gowns, well see for yourself.....

The Met Costume Institute Gala 2011
Not to be cliche, but as most of you know May 2, 2011 was the fashion event of the season The Met Costume Institute Gala...a.k.a fashion porn, fashion golden globes etc. This year was dedicated to the late Alexander McQueen 'Savage Beauty' and every editor, socialite, designer, and celebrity was there.
Since my invitation was apparently 'lost in the mail' I can't offer you full coverage of the event. I can however give you the best of the best looks. I'll leave the disasters of the night for Joan Rivers and the fashion police crew to discuss *clears throat* Taylor Swift, Serena Williams...seriously how did those bitches even get invited they couldn't know less about style. Oh and one last comment, the goal is not to wear a pretty dress or some crazy costume; this event is to showcase style and the art that is fashion and I think the following attendees did just that...
# 1 look of the night: Christina Ricci in Zac Posen. There aren't enough adjectives to describe this look...dramatic, elegent, chic: she took it to the edge but knew just when to pull back
#2 look of the night: Daphne Guiness in Alexander McQueen this socialite understands that clothing is not just something used to cover the body but a form of art.
